IMMEDIATE DARK
it didn't occur to me till
after I jumped and by then
too late there was
no going back
it was someone else's life
another person's dreams
passed before me
the tide swept in
furling my ankles
they say all time stops
when you reach the ocean
but for the landlocked
duration has no end
the tide recedes
you stare at your feet
and feel you're
racing backward
just before immediate dark
my eyes snapped open
an iguana was lurching home
under the smoked moon
