TABULA RASA

A large painting by Guido Vermeulen based on a musical piece by the composer ARVO PÄRT (1935-), realized after some email exchanges on contemporary music with mail artist Nancy Bell Scott, USA.
Painting was first a united cosmos, with 2 figures (mother and child), then the cosmos became divided in fragments, then most of the fragments were somehow united again, which made me reflect: in order to connect we have to disconnect in order to connect!
Pärt's Tabula Rasa composition is in 2 parts (Ludus and Silentium) and created a row amongst musicians (where is the music?!)
He explained to "pop" musician Björk: My music is simple, one line is my sins and the other is forgiveness. The music has 2 voices: one is more complicated and subjective; the other is clear, simple, objective"
That's what I tried to translate in this painting in 2 distinct cosmic voices and their surroundings. But in my opinion or vision these 2 voices, the subjective and the objective view, are somehow related despite different approaches... Perhaps I'm 2 idealistic here.
